Belagavi’s beloved Fort Lake(Kote Kere), is set to undergo significant transformation as ₹9.20 crore has been sanctioned for its improvement. Out of this, ₹8 crore will be allocated for developmental projects, while ₹1.20 crore is earmarked for maintenance. This funding has been approved under the Amrit Yojana of the Central Government, with State Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh leading the initiative.
The Belagavi city Corporation has already drafted plans for the development, ensuring that work begins as soon as the funds are disbursed. Killa Lake, previously under the jurisdiction of the Minor Irrigation Department, was handed over to the Municipal Corporation in 2020, making it eligible for comprehensive urban development projects.
Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, who has a deep connection to Belagavi from her tenure as Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Administrator, has outlined a vision to enhance the lake’s appeal. Her recent visits to Killa Lake during the ongoing legislative session in Belagavi highlighted her commitment to this project.
She has instructed officials to implement the concept of an “Urban Forest” in the lake area, integrate landscaping, and develop an open-air theatre. Additional plans include installing high-mast lighting and other essential facilities to elevate the lake’s recreational and cultural hub status.
Dr. Rajneesh’s dedication to improving Fort Lake dates back to her administrative tenure in Belagavi, where she initiated earlier phases of development. Even as the state’s Chief Secretary, she continues to champion the cause, reflecting her enduring passion for the city.
Over the years, Fort Lake has seen several enhancements, including creating a walking track, boating facilities, and a laser tech park under the Smart City scheme. However, these facilities have not been consistently accessible to the public. The new allocation of ₹9 crore aims to revitalize the lake and its surrounding areas further, ensuring that these amenities are fully utilized.
One of the tallest flagpoles in the country, located next to Fort Lake, already draws attention with the national flag fluttering for eight months of the year. With the planned upgrades, Fort Lake is poised to become one of Belagavi’s most prominent tourist destinations, offering a blend of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and cultural significance.
Good new and I see funds for capital expenditures and revenue maintenance
