The city of Belagavi has earned its place among the top 10 cities in India for women’s employment, according to a report by Avtar, a firm specializing in workplace inclusion.
The report ranks 111 cities based on parameters that create a conducive environment for women’s employment.
Belagavi has achieved the 10th position in the category of cities with a population of less than one million, alongside Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Erode, Salem, Tirupur, Puducherry, Shimla, Mangaluru, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Chennai is India’s best city for women’s employment, followed by Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka have the highest state averages in the country.
The study, in addition to indexed scores, took into account the steps taken by states and cities in the last year to empower women. It also considered the key inclusion measures necessary to increase women’s workforce participation. Avtar said its report is the first of its kind to provide a data- and evidence-based understanding of the state of women’s inclusion in cities. The survey highlighted the importance of transforming cities into spaces where women can freely pursue career and economic self-sufficiency goals.
