Advocates in the city boycotted work yesterday and will continue their boycott today as well opposing the National Law School Bill, 2011 and four other Bills proposed by the Centre.

The lawyers are opposing the Union government’s move to bring in the Higher Education and Research bill 2011; National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for Higher Institution bill 2010; the foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) bill, 2010; the Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Higher Educational Institution Bill, 2010; the Educational Tribunals bill, 2012 and the National Law School bill, 2011. All these bills have been passed in the Rajya Sabha and will be placed in the Lok Sabha for approval in the monsoon session.

A dharna was staged at the DC’s office after which a memorandum was also submitted.

It is believed that the Bill will take away the autonomy given to the Bar Council of India to regulate legal profession in the country.
