The state transport buses from Kolhapur and also NWKRTC suspended its services to the neighboring state against the backdrop of the heated debate and actions of a few regarding the border dispute between the two states over Belagavi.

It all began after Karnataka Navnirman Sena leader Bhimashankar Patil speaking at a press conference on December 26 said MES leaders, who have been fighting for the merger, should be shot dead on the border between the two states.

Patil taking cognizance of the statement made by MoSR Suresh Angadi who had asked authorities to “shoot at sight” anybody who causes damage to Railway property said that for so many years govt property has been damaged by MES and hence why not the same treatment as said by Minister.

It was tit for tat as Shiv Sena leaders in Kolhapur were angered over this statement and they protested.

border-rowborder-rowOn Saturday Kannada organizations in Belagavi took serious exception to Shiv Sena workers setting the Kannada flag on fire in Kolhapur. The Kannada Protestors staged a protest here on Saturday evening and burnt the effigy of Uddhav Thackeray Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

The tit for tat continued when a Kannada Movie show was stopped in Maharashtra.

A few Kannada activists threw black paint on Marathi letters on the Maharashtra Bus in the district.

No untoward incident has been reported but with the closure of the buses on a Sunday left the travelers in torment.
