Conversion of fruit and vegetable waste to energy in Belagavi city

The Belagavi Smart city limited, now plans to convert fruit and vegetable waste to energy and for the same has sought consultancy services for the same.

The Vegetable and Fruit waste generated in the city, which forms a bulk of the organic waste, has enormous potential for generating “a clean & renewable energy”. Renewable Energy generation help reduce greenhouse gas emission in to the atmosphere and electricity dependency on Fossil fuel & make the city self-sustainable.

An approximate 35tons of vegetable and fruit waste is generated daily in Belagavi city. Objective is to convert this waste to Renewables in the form of Biogas or Gasification or Pyrolysis, Power, Manure etc.…so that it can help bridge the energy deficit and also harness clean energy in the city.

An approximate area of 2 acres has been identified for installation of the plant near Udaymbag. Belagavi City intends to champion itself in the field of Clear Energy.

  1. A novel idea indeed. However, we need to first implement proper segregation of waste at all households and Co mercia establishments such as hotels and restaurents, organize systematic collection and transportation. Presently neither citizens are aware nor the employees of the contractor appropriately equipped and trained to carry out systematic collection of garbage. Request the concerned authorities to look into these aspects and then commenced the work on this project.
