Major General RJ Noronha, SM of Indian Army and Brigadier General Ahmed Nilam, Commandant Marine Corps of Maldives Army visited The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Belgaum to review the ongoing Fourth Indo-Maldives Joint Training/Exercise EKUVERIN-12. Both the senior officers witnessed the joint exercise EKUVERIN-12 which is being conducted from 12 Nov to 25 Nov 2012 by soldiers of Indian Army and Maldives Army with the aim to enhance interoperability between the two armies. 45 soldiers of Maldives Army and 45 soldiers of MADRAS Regiment of Indian Army are undergoing this joint exercise.
A number of training activities and exercises have been conducted during the joint training. This includes training in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism Operations.
‘Slithering’ practice and exercise were conducted at ‘Bagdad Asmara Range’ at Savgaon during the joint training.
The officers and soldiers of Maldives Army were highly appreciative of the high standard of training facilities at Belgaum like Jungle Camp, Commando Training Area and Bagdad Asmara Firing Range at Savgaon. The Joint training at an international level between Indian Army and Maldives Army is being conducted at Belgaum due to availability of excellent training infrastructure in close vicinity of the military establishment.
The senior Army officers of both armies interacted with troops and expressed their satisfaction over the level of training and jointmanship between the troops and they said that such joint exercises will go a long way in enhancing defense cooperation, understanding and synergy between the two nations. Souvenirs were exchanged between both armies.Â
