Suvarna Vidhana Soudha will host its maiden assembly session from December 5 to 13, 2012. The winter session of the Karnataka Assembly is to be held here and the government machinery is gearing up for the event.Â
As per estimates the Government would have to spend Rs 1.5 crore every day in contrast to the cost of Rs.50 lakh a day in Bangalore. The immense increment in the cost is due to the transportation and accommodation and installing of equipment and also shifting of documents from Bangalore to Belgaum and then back.
The district administration has reserved rooms in most of the major hotels in the city from Dec 5 to December 13. Apart from 224 MLAs, there will be ministers, secretaries and other officials coming for the session. Accommodation will also be provided for marshals and drivers as well.
Hence accommodation for about 1500 people all the hotels have been booked and guest houses, hostels and marriage halls have been booked for accommodation.
So if you are visiting the city during the above period and want to have hotel accommodation please call your hotel and confirm your bookings.
The MES and other Marathi groups have decided to hold a parallel Maha Melava at Subhash Chandra grounds as it had done in the previous occasions.
Earlier Session:
It was in 2006, during the coalition government headed by H.D. Kumaraswamy, that a session of the legislature was held in Belgaum for the first time at the KLE University premises, primarily to convey to the neighbouring State of Maharashtra that Belgaum is an integral part of Karnataka. This was followed by another weeklong session held in January 2009, when the B.S. Yeddyurappa government was in power.
After so much of expenditure that has cost the state exchequer. Hope something good comes out of it towards the development of North Karnataka.
yes outcome will be adjournment, uproar in soudha and nice outing/picnic for legislature members in Belgaum. Welcome dear lawmaker, have a pleasant stay in Belgaum.
