The villagers of Hirebagewadi in Belagavi taluka who had earlier fought for the establishment of Rani Channamma University, have now joined the struggle to oppose the university.
Farmers made this clear to the officials of the University and AC of Belagavi who came to the site near Gudda Mallappa of Hirebagewadi village in Belagavi taluk.
Rani Channamma university is constructing a building in an area of about one hundred acres near Mallappan Gudda.
The reason for their anger is that during the construction of the road to reach this place, as the farmers allege that RCU is grabbing the fertile land of the farmers.
Here, the farmers have given up extra ten feet wide land instead of 20 feet wide for the construction of this road, but RCU is not only making another road in the middle of the farmer’s land without giving any information, but JCB is working to destroying the standing crop, which has angered the farmers.
For the past many years, they have blocked the pathway used by the farmers and erected a massive enclosure wall, unfortunately, the university is doing the work of preventing the farmers who have given land from entering the enclosure, Rani Channamma University is abusing the farmers and obstructing the transportation of sugarcane, the farmers alleged.
For the past several months, the farmers have been raising their grievances before the university authorities but to no avail.
Rani Channamma university officials were warned that if this oppression continues on the farmers, there may be a situation where they will have to fight against RCU and hence the blueprint for the work to be taken up here should be shown to the farmers and work should be carried out, said a press release from the farmers.
