IAS officer Ghosh to oversee Belagavi legislature session

The 10 day Assembly session which is slated begin on December 10 for the first time will be overseen by an IAS officer namely Ujwal Kumar Ghosh will be also responsible for checking wasteful expenditure.

Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar has appointed Ujwal Kumar Ghosh, Commissioner of Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation for the Upper Krishna Project, as the Special Officer for the Belagavi session.

The Special Officer will work in coordination with the Regional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi.

The expenses incurred on Belagavi session have been increasing year after year. Last year, ₹31 crore had been spent on the 10-day session and the expenditure in 2016 was ₹18.75 crore. In 2015, the expenditure was only ₹8.2 crore. 

To curb wasteful expenditure, the speaker has appointed the officer to oversee the entire session and curb the expenses.

Here the expenditure has been rising each year as all the MLA’s, MLC’s, Minister’s, Secretary and other officers which will also include around 4000 police officers have to be provided food, accommodation, transport.
