IDS Belagavi Half Marathon on Oct 21

Belagavi city will be seen on the Marathon map of India as the city is all set to hold its Half Marathon. To be held for the first time in the region, the IDS Belagavi Half Marathon is an Ambitious Annual Running event starting that will be held on Sunday, October 21.

Being held jointly by IDS group, Lakeview Hospitals Group in association with City Corporation of Belagavi, the organisers will be holding the event in support of Raj Laxmi Children Foundation here, which runs welfare, hygiene and health programmes for the government school children.

To be held in three categories viz 5 km, 10 km and 25 km, the event will commence at around 6.30 am from CPed ground and go across various routes via Hanuman Nagar, Hindalga and other routes based on distance.

marathonSpeaking about the marathon on behalf of the organizers Dr. Kirtirai Mane, organising secretary of the event said that it is being held in order to create health awareness among the citizens of Belagavi region. “Running is considered one of the important fitness regimes to maintain good health. Conduct of marathons and runs helps in motivating the local population to train and maintain an active lifestyle thus controlling various diseases like diabetes and heart ailments, he ascertained.

Giving further details Dr. Shashikant Kulgod, the organising chairman of the event said that backed by IDS group, Belagavi, the event is first of its kind in the region. “This is for the first time for Belagavi to conduct Half marathon. The organisers are leaving no stone unturned to make this event one of the best of its kind in the region. This Run also supports Rajalakshmi Children Foundation that is involved in Health Promoting activities in Government schools of Belagavi,” Dr. Kulgod said adding that more than 1000 athletes and amateurs registered so far, 15th of October being the last date to register for the event.

The foundation that has carried out free anemia and health check-up of more than 2000 government schools is providing free vitamin supplements to over 1000 students he said adding that the foundation is taking up repairs and maintenance of toilets in more than 10 of these schools in Mahanteshnagar cluster, at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakhs.

To be inaugurated by Maj Gen Alok Kakkar will flag off the marathon. Brig Govind Kalwad and a team of officials from MLIRC, City Commissioner Shashidhar Kurer and a team from City Corporation, Police Commissioner D C Rajappa, Dy Commissioner Seema Latkar, and eminent personalities and athletes will be taking part in the marathon.

Dr. Anil Patil of Lakeview group and Sharadkumar Mukkannavar, Managing Director of IDS urged citizens to take part in this event for their health and support the social cause. “ We do not expect any professional benefits by supporting this event, but we are doing so as the part of social responsibility he said adding that IDS would every year support the marathon henceforth.

City Corporation health officer Dr. Shashidhar Nadgouda said that city corporation would be propagating its ‘Clean Belagavi” campaign by associating with this event. Athletes and amateurs are urged to register online at – www.belagavihalfmarathon.com
