The Kidwai Cancer Hospital, also known as the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, will now be established within the premises of the Civil Hospital Belagavi. The previous plan to construct the hospital at Vadgaon has been abandoned.
In 2022, the Commissioner of the Health Department held a press conference in Belagavi to announce the commencement of hospital construction within a month. The hospital will be built on a 4-acre plot of open land near Vadgaon Primary Health Center. MLA Abhay Patil played a crucial role in identifying the land in Vadgaon and expressed his support for constructing the hospital there.
However, it has now been revealed that the hospital will be constructed on the Civil hospital premises, and the Deputy Commissioner has been duly informed.
The final decision regarding the hospital’s location has been made, and administrative approval was received on September 20, 2022. The Cabinet meeting held on September 19, 2022, has cleared the way for the change of venue to BIMS(civil hospital).
A budget of Rs. 50 Crore has been allocated for the construction of the Belagavi Kidwai Cancer Hospital in the fiscal year 2022-23. Additionally, three other locations in the state have already been designated to provide medical treatment for cancer patients in their respective districts.
