New University at Hassan: Visvesvaraya Technological University to be split

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in the budget 2019-20 has proposed to reduce the burden of the Visvesaraya Technological University located at Belagavi by setting up one more university in Hassan.

The number of colleges affiliated to the VTU will be divided geographically in the interest of students.

To improve the technical education in the state one more technological university is needed also keeping the interest of students and also the geographical basis in mind, engineering colleges will be redistributed.

Ashok Chandaragi demanded that the proposal be dropped immediately. VTU in Belagavi is a result of the fight of Kannada organizations in the 80s. In 1997-98 then CM JH Patel established the university to focus on North Karnataka region.
