The TOI, in a story, has brought out the lapse of Spicejet pilots at the Belagavi- IXG airport during landing its flight from Hyderabad.
The crew operating a flight from Hyderabad to Belagavi on Sunday landed on the “wrong” end of the runway.
The directorate general of civil aviation has ordered a probe into this and has derostered (taken off flying duty) both the pilots pending an inquiry. Luckily, the Q400 landed safely at Belagavi, add the TOI story.
“SpiceJet DASH8 Q400 aircraft VT-SQC operated flight SG3733, on Sunday. Air traffic control had cleared the aircraft to land on runway 26 at Belagavi. However, the landing was carried out on runway 08 (meaning, it touched down on the other end of the runway instead of the designated end).
The crew has been off rostered pending investigation, said a senior DGCA official.
The investigation will determine if radio protocol was followed and what was communicated to the cockpit. Did the tower not notice the approach? Lot of questions to be answered before pilot is blamed.
Friday travelled from Mumbai to Belgaum by spice jet but landing was not at all smooth and pilot put sudden breaks also. All passengers were shocked but luckily no one was hurt.
In light of this incident, wondering if the Instrument landing system (ILS) is commissioned and functioning at IXG Airport ?
ILS not activated as yet
