Sugarcane farmer digs grave, sits inside in protest

Photo of author

Shivanand Bogur, a sugarcane farmer from MK Hubli, Belagavi district, dug a grave and sat inside it as a protest against the non-clearance of his pending dues.

A video is viral where he is asking the government officials to come and bury him as the MK Hubli Sugar Factory to which he had supplied the cane is not clearing the pending dues.

Bogur said that nobody from the factory responded to his requests and he had supplied 114 tonnes of cane to the factory for which he was supposed to be paid Rs 85,000 but the factory but did not pay him, despite repeated reminders.

Bogur said that he did not even have the money to pay his children’s school fees or to make a living and dying is the only option ahead.

  1. Concerned sugar Mill should come out with their response on this news.
If the farmer’s claim is true, then local MLA should take the sugar Mill management for task to adress the issue on priority.
There are many more farmers waiting for payments in settlement of their overdue instalments from various sugar mills.

Our government in Bangalore only makes big announcements and does a little to effectively address farmers’ problems.
