The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) made history on Tuesday by selecting the highest number of women ever for the Indian civil services.

Three candidates from Belagavi district have cleared the UPSC this year, including Shruti Yaragatti (UPSC – AIR 362) from Arabhavimath village, Adinath Tamadaddi from Ugar village (UPSC – AIR 566), and Akshay Patil from Shamanewadi village (UPSC – AIR 746).

This year, over one-third of the 933 candidates recommended for appointment are women. This is a significant increase from just two decades ago when women accounted for only 20% of the selected candidates. Additionally, the top four ranks this year have been claimed by women, marking the second consecutive year that women candidates have secured the top three positions.
