The members of the Belagavi Traders forum met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to Belagavi today and submitted a memorandum.

Belagavi, strategically positioned equidistant from major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad, and the popular tourist destination, Goa, plays a pivotal role as a hub for both migration and goods transportation. While we fully endorse the government’s developmental initiatives for the state, we wish to highlight the dire condition of the road stretching from Belagavi to the Karnataka-Goa border near Chorla village. This road urgently requires repair works on a priority basis.

Similarly, the alternate route via Anmod is also in a deplorable state, particularly from the Anmod Check Post to Khanapur. Delays in the repair works by the concerned agencies exacerbate the situation. Many bridges along the Anmod highway remain incomplete, demanding immediate attention for the welfare of citizens, farmers, and commuters.

Goa heavily relies on supplies from Belagavi, which serves as a significant commercial hub and the primary source of goods for Goa’s daily consumption needs. The poor road conditions pose significant challenges for traders, suppliers, transporters, and tourists, adding financial strain, especially in the post-COVID era. Neighboring districts like Hubli, Dharwad, Bellary, Bijapur, Kolhapur, and Karwar also face the brunt of these inadequate road conditions as they make frequent trips to Goa with essential commodities.

Moreover, the closure of Anmod for repairs has shifted much of the traffic to Chorla ghat, leading to frequent breakdowns and accidents. This not only inconveniences commuters but also affects the flow of goods and services crucial for both regional and international trade.

Additionally, the proposed road via Chandagad to Mopa International Airport holds immense potential to boost the economies of Chandagad, Ajra, Gadhinglaj, Kolhapur, Belagavi, Hubli, Dharwad, and surrounding areas. It would significantly reduce the distance to the international airport for Belagavi and facilitate smoother trade and travel.

The Belgaum Traders Forum earnestly seeks to ensure the steady growth of the state, supported by adequate infrastructure. Through this communication, we aim to draw attention to these pressing matters and request the authorities to expedite repair works and initiate surveys for crucial new road connections.

  1. For the past couple of years, I had horrible experience of travelling to Belagavi via Chorla Ghat from Goa due to dilapidated road condition. It is extremely difficult to drive vehicle and navigate very meticulously to avoid breakdown of cars because of big potholes. Appeal to Union Minister to expedite repair work to provide relief to the travellers.
