The Karnataka Legislature has begun today at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha Belagavi which happens to be the 11th session here. On Monday, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and other Congress MLAs staged a protest outside the Assembly in Belagavi against the installation of a portrait of Veer Damodar Savarkar in the Assembly hall.
The protesters sought to disrupt the Assembly proceedings, citing the need to raise corruption issues against the ruling party and their lack of a development agenda.
The Belagavi Police denied Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) permission to hold its Maha Melava (convention) at the Vaccine Depot ground in Tilakwadi. They imposed a prohibition order in the jurisdiction of the Tilakwadi Police Station.
Alok Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police for Law and Order, visited the site to assess the situation. He stated that permission had not been granted to the MES for their convention and that the entry of political leaders from Maharashtra was also prohibited.
