assembly svsThe maiden assembly session has begun at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha Belgaum. The mega structure has been touched up for the big occasion but Deccan Herald in a reports the flaws of the new building.
DH mentions that, there lack of planning and this is very much evident. For example, the ladies’ toilet is right next to the gents’ toilet. Even latches are missing in the ladies’ washrooms.

Belgaum district administration has hired 200 private cars which include 170 Toyota Innovas and 14 buses, besides pooling in about 260 Mahindra Bolero and Tata Sumo government vehicles from other districts. About 1,890 hotel rooms have been booked to accommodate legislators, officials and media persons. Government has already released Rs three crores to the district administration and Rs two crores to the PWD as initial expenditure.
The principal secretary, additional secretary, secretary and commissioner will stay in Hubli. They will shuttle to Belgaum every day. 376 computers have been installed in the Suvarna Soudha with internet, printer and other facilities and the VTU is looking after it.
Also ealborate food arrangements have been made for 6 days at the SVS with various dishes.

  2. Though they have built the SVS to counter claims by Maharashtra, a better solution would have been to spend just half the amount 225 crores on basic facilities and infrastructure development of Belgaum city and its surroundings. This would have been a better reply to MES/Maharashtra, IMO.

    [(400cr for SVS + 15 cr (Pranab’s visit) + 30 cr (costs for this session)] – Total about 450 crores, public money…
