Controversy has arisen between ministers Satish Jarkiholi and Lakshmi Hebbalkar, both representing Belagavi district, over the transfer of personnel. This division within the Congress party could potentially harm their prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The rift was triggered when Jarkiholi’s recommendations for appointments were not accepted and instead, candidates suggested by Hebbalkar were considered. Jarkiholi’s supporters feel that it is an insult to their leader.

The rift was triggered when the Urban Development Department refused to accept the recommendations made by Jarkiholi, the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD), for an appointment to the Belagavi City Corporation. Instead, they considered a candidate suggested by Hebbalkar, the Minister of Women and Child Welfare.

Furthermore, Jarkiholi faced another setback as his recommendations for the presidential posts of the Belagavi Urban Development Authority (BUDA) and the Catchment Area Development Authority (CADA) for the Malaprabha and Ghataprabha river projects were temporarily halted. These recommendations included two of his party supporters from the district Congress.

The disagreement arose due to the rejection of Jarkiholi’s suggestions for key positions within the government. This decision not only undermined his authority but also highlighted the influence of Hebbalkar in the decision-making process. Consequently, tensions between the two ministers escalated, leading to a rift within the government.

Moreover, Jarkiholi’s setback extended beyond the Belagavi City Corporation appointment. His recommendations for the presidential posts of BUDA and CADA, crucial positions for the development of the Malaprabha and Ghataprabha river projects, were put on hold. These recommendations included individuals affiliated with his own party, further exacerbating the political turmoil.

The alleged involvement of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in the transfers has also caused discontent among legislators. The Jarkiholi family, which wields substantial political influence, has a rivalry with Hebbalkar over control of district politics.
