Niranjan shines in Indian Senior National Championship 2018

Niranjan Navalgund of Belagavi participated in the Indian Senior National Chess Championship 2018 organized by All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federation from 8th December 2018 to 18th December 2018.

A total of 162 players from 27 states and 8 special units including Air India, Railways, Defence, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, LIC etc participated in the event. The event also attracted the participation of 19 Grandmasters, 20 International masters, 50 titled players. Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram of Tamilnadu emerged as the champion with 10 points out of 13 rounds in the event.

niranjanNiranjan Navalgund represented Karnataka and scored 8.5 points out of 13 games and secured his second International Master norm in the event. He exceeded the requirement by one point and also increased 87 rating points with a performance of 2501. He was awarded the International Master Norm certificate during the closing ceremony.

Niranjan has also got one Grandmaster norm to his credit which he secured in January, 2017 and is being trained by K.Visweswaran of Chennai.

Shri Naveen Kumar Choudhary, IAS, Principal Secretary Finance was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed the prizes in presence of MR. Talat Parvez, Excise commissioner and other guests including chief accountant officer USBRL project G.S.Hira, Norther Railway, J&K Divisional Sports Officer Jammu Ravi Singh.
